“Imagine the tremendous social benefit created if every American child received an annual vision screening at school. Preventable causes of vision loss could be detected at an early age, when treatment works best. Learning and school performance would be optimized.”
- James W. O’Neil, M.D., founder, VisionQuest 20/20
Vision problems affect more than five million elementary school children nationwide. Amblyopia, or “lazy eye,” is the leading cause of monocular blindness in America. If left undetected, Amblyopia and other treatable vision disorders can result in lifelong and significant academic, health, and psychosocial consequences.
Currently, one in four elementary school children in the U.S. has been diagnosed with a vision problem. More astounding is the fact that four in five children do not receive an annual vision screening. We are working to eradicate that problem by introducing a viable and productive solution.
We are the only non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to establishing a national vision screening program for U.S. school children. Though vision disorders can occur at any age, the organization’s goal is to ensure that all school-aged children receive a vision screening annually.
As you may already be aware, there are 8 steps to successfully implementing a nationwide vision screening program.
